So many sites not Search Engine Optimized

Every day I run across so many websites that are not search engine optimized.  Why is that?  Are people just not informed about the positive effect it’ll have on their business if their sites ARE search engine optimized, or do they ’assume’ it’s just too expensive?

Whatever the case may be, these businesses are missing out.  If your website is not search engine optimized, you’re probably not coming up very high in the search engines -and- you think your website is useless for bringing in new business.  The good news is…it’s NOT very expensive.  Usually for under $2,000 the top tier pages of your website can become SEO-friendly and you’ll see the results for a long time.

Every week I talk to or meet with people who try to diss their web designer for not doing this for them and I have to explain.  It isn’t the desingers fault – the designers job is to make your website look pretty and function well.  That’s all that you pay them for — the design.  Seasoned Web designers are seldom interested in SEO because this is a totally different game.  And to become good at SEO, you’ve got to invest many many hours each month to stay on top of your game.  It’s a science and that’s why others (non-designers, like me) specialize in this — it’s fun, challenging, and always changing.

If your website is not coming up on the 1st or 2nd pages of Google, Yahoo! or MSN, your website needs to be optimized for the search engines.  Read about it so you’ll be informed, then hire a professional to do the work for you.  Hire someone who is passionate about SEO.  And good luck!  You’ll soon find that your investment is well worth it.

Presidential Campaign and Social Media

Watched the presidential debate earlier this evening. I think both candidates did an excellent job .  OK – enough said about that!

It’s interesting to see which forms of social media each of the candidates are using.  Initially Obama seemed to be more into social media, but since Sarah Palin has joined McCain, their use of social media has escalated, which is very cool!  I’m following both candidates on Twitter, and boy, Obama evidently joined much earlier than McCain.  Obama has 86,000 followers and McCain (at this time) only has 2,000 followers!

Their YouTube videos are multiplying daily, as well as the use of other blogspots.  Since I’m in the SEO industy, it’s good to watch how social media will help in promoting each of the candidates.  Spread the word, people!  If you don’t join in, you’ll be left in the dust!!

And what a beautiful day in the MidSouth for the big party at Ole Miss today.  It was fun to see both planes land in/near Memphis for the big debate.  What fun for the local Memphis media.
